(a) Authority. Authority for this subchapter is provided in the Texas Education Code, §54.353, Firefighters Enrolled in Fire Science Courses. This subchapter establishes procedures to administer this exemption program.(b) Purpose. The purpose of this program is to provide an exemption from tuition and laboratory fees to eligible persons employed as firefighters by a political subdivision of the state or who are active members of an eligible organized volunteer fire department in this state.
