SECTION/RULE §295.163 - Standards for General Sanitation

(a) Hygiene.(1) Employers shall require that work areas be kept clean to the extent that the nature of the work allows.(2) Job sites shall be kept free from obstructions that may cause or contribute to the injury of an employee, cause an unsafe act to be committed, or impede sanitation.(b) Waste collection and disposal.(1) Any receptacle used for the collection and storage of putrescible wastes shall be sturdily constructed so that it does not leak and may be conveniently and thoroughly cleaned. Such a receptacle shall be equipped with a tight-fitting cover, and shall be maintained in a sanitary condition. Disposable plastic bags of suitable size and strength are recommended for use as liners for such containers.(2) All solid or liquid wastes, debris, refuse, and garbage, shall be removed from work and rest areas in such a manner as to avoid creating a nuisance or menace to health. Removal shall be repeated as often as necessary to maintain sanitary conditions.(3) All wastes, including human waste, that are collected as a consequence of temporary employment shall be disposed of according to the applicable statutes covering the disposal of wastes.(c) Inspection. Every temporary place of employment shall be maintained in a sanitary condition. To this purpose, inspections of job sites and related sanitary facilities shall be made by the employer or his designated representative(s) as often as necessary to insure compliance with all sanitary requirements of these sections.
