SECTION/RULE §320.213 - Emergency Use of Psychoactive Medication

(a) Emergency psychoactive medications are used to treat the signs and symptoms of mental illness in a psychiatric emergency when other interventions are ineffective or inappropriate.(b) The selection of the medication should take into account the patient's current medication regimen. Using a medication that the patient is currently prescribed is preferable, if clinically indicated.(c) All required documentation will be entered into the patient's record as soon as the emergency abates.
