SECTION/RULE §503.49 - Care of the Newborn

A center shall adopt, implement, and enforce written policies and procedures for the care of the newborn. The clinical director shall review and revise the policies as necessary to reflect current practices. The policies shall include the following:(1) resuscitation of the newborn;(2) prophylactic treatment of the eyes;(3) documentation of a physical examination of the newborn performed before discharge;(4) referral for any abnormalities or problems;(5) the collection of blood for newborn screening; and(6) procedures for the detection of Rh and ABO isoimmunization.
