(a) The medical director shall be on-site at the limited services rural hospital (LSRH) when necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, as described by this chapter and the LSRH's governing body.(b) Notwithstanding subsection (a) of this section, each LSRH's medical director shall be on-site at the LSRH for at least 12 hours per month.(c) The medical director's responsibilities shall include:(1) organizing the emergency services to be provided at the LSRH;(2) supervising and overseeing the infection control program, quality assessment and performance improvement program, and patient safety program; and(3) regularly attending meetings of the infection control program, quality assessment and performance improvement program, and patient safety program.(d) The medical director shall have the authority to contract with outside persons for the performance of the LSRH's peer review activities as necessary.(e) The medical director shall be a physician licensed to practice medicine in Texas.
