SECTION/RULE §747.5301 - What steps must I take to ensure that heating devices used at my child-care home do not present hazards to children?

(a) Gas appliances must have metal tubing and connections, be in good repair and free from leaks.(b) Open flame heaters (heaters where the flame can be easily touched or accessed) are prohibited.(c) Space heaters must be enclosed and have the seal of approval of a United States test laboratory, or be approved by the state or local fire marshal.(d) You must safeguard floor and wall furnace grates, steam and hot water pipes, and electric space heaters so that children do not have access to them.(e) Liquid fuel heaters are prohibited.(f) Gas fuel heaters, fireplaces, and wood-burning stoves must be properly vented to the outside.(g) If you use a fireplace, wood-burning stove, or space heater, you must install a screen or guard with sufficient strength to prevent children from falling into the fire or against the stove or heater.
