(a) An emergency evacuation and relocation plan is a plan designed to ensure the safety of children during a fire, severe weather conditions, or another type of emergency requiring evacuation or relocation of children in care.(b) In an emergency, your first responsibility is to move all the children to a designated safe area known to all employees, caregivers, and volunteers. Your plan must also require the person in charge of your operation during the emergency to:(1) Designate an employee to call the fire department in case of fire or danger of fire, explosion, toxic fumes, or other chemical release. If the danger requires immediate evacuation of the operation, this person must first evacuate the operation and then make the necessary call from another location;(2) Designate an employee responsible for securing children's emergency numbers, emergency medical authorizations, and medications during the emergency;(3) Once the person in charge is at the designated safe area, account for all children who were in attendance at the time of the emergency; and(4) Ensure that no one uses elevators during a fire.
