The following words and terms, when used in this chapter, shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:(1) "Alternative providers" means check cashers, licensed money transmitters, licensed lenders, and licensed residential mortgage lenders.(2) "Banking services" include deposit taking, check-cashing, and origination of residential mortgages, commercial mortgages, or other secured or unsecured consumer or commercial loans.(3) "Branch" means a full-service main office or branch office of a financial institution or credit union.(4) "Commission" means the Finance Commission of Texas.(5) "Credit union" means a state or federal credit union.(6) "Department" means the Texas Department of Banking.(7) "District" means a banking development district under this chapter.(8) "Financial institution" means a state or national bank, a state or federal savings bank, or a state or federal savings and loan association.(9) "Local government" means a municipality or county.
